Available Programs
I. Perspectives on Emotional and Behavioral Disorders
The purpose of Perspectives on Emotional and Behavioral Disorders is to enhance
problem-solving skills of teachers who work with children with emotional and behavioral
disorders. The focus is on understanding children from multiple perspectives and the need for
collaborative models in helping children. The perspectives include behavioral, ecological,
psychoeducational, biophysical, and integrative theories. Five prominent experts provide
overviews of the perspectives and commentary on each of the children featured in the case
studies.
The case materials allow users to explore and practice the processes involved in serving such
children by observing children in a variety of situations, comparing and contrasting multiple
theoretical views, hearing "experts" discuss the cases, and engaging in problem-solving and
planning activities.II. Assessment and Planning in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders
The purpose of Assessment and Planning in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders is to enhance
assessment and planning skills of teachers who work with children with emotional and
behavioral disorders. The focus is on the assessment and planning process for evaluating
children's behavioral characteristics from the school team perspective. Problem solving
activities include writing interview questions; writing a referral; judging eligibility;
making a placement recommendation; and writing goals, activities, and support plans.
The case materials allow users to explore and practice the processes involved in serving such
children by observing children in a variety of situations, "interviewing" significant
personnel for background, seeking information about assessment and placement processes, and
"sitting in" on multidisciplinary assessment conferences.
IIB. Classroom Observation Practice
The program Classroom Observation Practice focuses on procedures for observing student
behaviors in classroom. Practices are available for six types of observation procedures: event
recording, duration recording, latency recording, interval recording, time sampling recording,
and ABC functional analysis.
The user records data on the paper/pencil form and has control over the video through an
on-screen video controller bar. The user enters data into a recording table on the screen and
receives feedback from the program. Scenes have been coded by master observers and these data
are used to provide comparative feedback. One video scene, "Do Your Own," for each type of
observation procedure has been left "unstructured" to enable the user to construct an
observation protocol, thus receiving practice in selecting, prioritizing, and defining
behaviors.
III. Instruction and Management in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders
The purpose of Program III is to enhance assessment and planning skills of teachers who work
with children with emotional and behavioral disorders in classrooms.
The focus is on planning for therapeutic instruction, planning behavioral interventions, and
creating cognitive-behavioral intervention materials. Problem-solving activities such as
identifying needs and assessing settings are included.
Each interactive case includes an opening challenge scenario and supportive information. The
case materials allow users to explore and practice the steps of teaching and managing
children/youth with a range of challenging behaviors by observation, "interviews," and the
evaluation of intervention plans. Materials contain short presentations on such
psychoeducational curriculums as social skills and anger control training. Performance support
tools are available within the software providing templates for a variety of
cognitive-behavioral interventions.
KidTools
KidTools is a companion software program for children to use in classroom settings for
self-management. The program contains easy-to-use templates for entering personalized
content. The template forms include point cards, countoons, self-management cards, S.T.A.R.
cards, monitoring cards, make-a-plan cards, and contracts. To use this program, children
enter information about target behaviors into a template form and print out the card for
immediate use in the classroom. The program uses graphic characters to serve as "guides" to
the different tools and provides the option of spoken text for emerging readers.

iKidTools is designed for middle school/junior high children.
ToolResources contains information about the tools and examples for parents and educators.
KidSkills
KidSkills is a software program that provides strategy tools for children to use to improve their success in learning. The program contains
easy-to-use templates for children to enter their own organizational and learning materials. The template forms include multiple tools in each
of the following areas: getting organized, taking notes, organizing information, using texts, doing homework, memorizing, studying for tests,
and doing projects. KidSkills
uses graphic characters as "guides" through the different tools and provides spoken narration for emerging
readers. As each tool is completed, it can be saved for future reference as well as printed out for use.
eKidSkills is designed for elementary children.
iKidSkills is designed for middle school/junior high children.

StrategyTools & StrategyTools Coach
StrategyTools™ is an advanced version of the KidTools and KidSkills programs that has been developed for secondary-age students.
StrategyTools incorporates more mature formats, i.e., editing, linking, expanding, and content entry, for all the tools and adds new
categories of tools for transition planning and personal problem solving. StrategyTools uses a graphic character "Tran" as a coach to
support secondary students in creating tools. All tools can be saved into a database and called up for editing, using again, and printing.
